Raising Money in Politics

In 2010 the Supreme Court changed money in the political world with the Citizen United Decision. The Court decided in that decision that the contribution of money is speech and is therefore protected by the 1st Amendment.

Citizen United contributed to the philosophy that corporations and large organizations are people. We now see “individuals” like the National Rifle Association putting large sums of money in the pockets of politicians and spending large amounts of money in local elections opposing candidates like Gloria Johnson.

Raising money is now an integral part of a political party. We must raise money to exist and give our candidates an opportunity to win an election. It is a burden, but work with the party and come up with new ideas for fund raising.
